Sequences

In addition to completing the core requirements, students must complete a sequence of courses for a particular communication field. Sequences are advertising, journalism and public relations.

General requirements

  • Students must have a grade of C (2.0) or better in any communications course that is a prerequisite for another course or they must repeat the required course before advancing in the school’s curriculum.
  • Mass Communication majors are required to have a minor, a set of courses in a field of study outside the School of Mass Communication. Requirements for minors are specified elsewhere in the bulletin.
  • Students are required to complete an internship to gain professional experience in their field of study.
  • The Mass Communication major is 40 hours. No more than 40 hours in Mass Communication courses may be counted toward the 120 hours needed for the degree. Students must also complete 65 hours in the liberal arts and sciences outside of the School of Mass Communication.
  • No Mass Communication course offered in the Common Curriculum may be used to meet major requirements for the degree or to meet Common Curriculum requirements.
